About Us
The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, established within the Tavşanlı Faculty of Applied Sciences (TUBİF), aims to train creative, entrepreneurial, and well-equipped young managers, aspiring chefs, and gastronomy specialists who possess the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge and industry-specific skills. Furthermore, in line with Kütahya Dumlupınar University's mission of "Adding Value to Its Environment," the department's secondary objectives are to uncover Kütahya's gastronomic heritage and, by harmonizing these values with traditional Anatolian culinary culture, to elevate Turkish cuisine to its deserved global standing.
The curriculum offered in the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts department aims to equip our students with a mindset based on planning, management, supervision, and analysis, in order to increase the efficiency of businesses and organizations in all areas of their employment. This goal is taken into account when designing our curriculum. Our students are taught vocational courses such as nutrition, food science, food hygiene, tourism, business administration, new product development, food and beverage management, service techniques, gastronomic history, classical and modern culinary techniques, world culinary cultures, baking and pastry, hot kitchen, cold kitchen, chocolate making, regional cuisine, and Turkish cuisine, as well as economics, law, sociology, management and marketing, accounting, and finance. Additionally, in addition to English language instruction, students can also choose elective courses in German, French, or Arabic throughout their studies.
Graduates of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department receive a Bachelor of Science degree. Graduates of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department work in various management positions in public and private institutions and organizations, based on their education and personal skills. Our graduates can find employment opportunities at mid- and upper-level levels in sectors related to Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, such as accommodation management, food and beverage operations, travel management, airline and airport operations, yacht, marina, and cruise ship operations, and catering companies. This may vary depending on the student's individual interests. Alternatively, due to the both sectoral and academic aspects of undergraduate education, they can pursue an academic career in the field.
Requirements for the Optional Foreign Language Preparatory Class:
The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts has a four-year academic program. The Preparatory Program is not mandatory at our faculty. However, a one-year optional Preparatory Program is available for those who request it. Those who pass the proficiency exam in the relevant language at the end of the program are enrolled directly in the first year. The Preparatory Class is not included in the four-year program period. The purpose of the Preparatory Class is to: The program aims to teach the fundamental rules of the relevant language, oral and written comprehension, and narrative methods, to develop foreign language vocabulary, to develop reading and comprehension skills, to develop the ability to follow publications in various fields, and to develop the language communication skills necessary for academic and social life. Internship Information and Requirements:
The Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department offers both theoretical and practical training. Students complete workplace internships in areas related to their profession to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. One of the most important factors in helping our students achieve their future career goals is the summer internships they will complete during their university years. Our department places great importance on internships and employment, providing ongoing support in all necessary areas, such as resume preparation, interview skills, and finding suitable internship positions. The internship period required for Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department students is one hundred and twenty (120) days.
