Our faculty's Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department held an internship information conference for second- and third-year students. At the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serdar Eren provided information about companies offering internships and CV preparation; Instructors Erdoğan Bozan and Fatih Yıldırım shared their internship experiences; and Res. Asst. Kübra Kırbaç provided detailed information about the procedures to be followed before, during, and after the internship.
On December 3, 2024, a Pirge Knife Academy seminar was held as part of our department's "Introduction to Professional Kitchen Life" course, taught by Dr. Özkan Demir, a faculty member. The event, attended by our faculty's Vice Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aslı Boru İpek, along with our faculty's academics and students, featured Pirge Representative Fırat Erbil, who shared information with the students on knife structure, grips, types of use in the kitchen, color coding, the importance of knives in chopping techniques, cutting tools in pastry making, key points to consider when sharpening knives, and cleaning knives. During the event, the first three students to answer Erbil's questions correctly were awarded Pirge knives. The event concluded with a certificate of appreciation from our Vice Dean, Aslı Boru İpek, to Fırat Erbil.
On May 23, 2024, a talk titled "Marketing Kütahya Cuisine" was held in our Faculty Conference Hall as part of Turkish Cuisine Week, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serdar Eren and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kansu Gençer. Speakers included Prof. Dr. Hilmi Rafet Yüncü of Anadolu University, Prof. Dr. Rahman Temizkan of Eskişehir Osmangazi University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Olcay Kılınç of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Boz, Kütahya Provincial Tourism Director Zekeriya Ünal, academic and administrative staff, and students. The talk addressed the development of Turkish cuisine from past to present, its richness, potential initiatives for its promotion, marketing, and preservation, the geographical indication system, and the sustainability of our intangible cultural heritage. Information was also provided on the historical process of Kütahya cuisine and its traditional recipes, its strengths and weaknesses, and potential actions for its promotion. Following the talk, the speakers answered questions from the students. The talk concluded after the speakers were presented with certificates of appreciation for their participation.
